Dean Collins, grande ballerino di swing, è famoso per questo aforisma: "There is no style, there is only Swing" e fedele a ciò continuò a ballare il suo Swing Sofisticato anche dopo il tramonto delle Big Band.

Dean was way ahead of his time when it came to dance and he could style Swing like no other when the music got slow and could become a cyclone when it got fast. Dean and others danced to all styles of music in the 1960's and 1980's as long as it "swung (Aka dance to a rhythmic sound that coinicided with the dance)" as a lot of the good swing music was disappearing fast. Il West Coast Swing dagli anni Ottanta è decisamente cambiato, ma sicuramente meno dei balli da discoteca autoreferenziali che hanno preso piede dagli anni Settanta in poi.
Personalmente trovo fantastico che non si sia mai smesso di ballare questo swing, perfino in un contesto di R&B moderno, mantenendo vivo il sottile colloquio della coppia che swinga.
